Prospect Hill (New South Wales)

Imagine a big hill standing all by itself, like a giant guarding the land! That's Prospect Hill, not too far from Sydney. It's like a special landmark that people have seen for ages.

It's even taller than a really tall tree, reaching up to 117 meters high. That's like stacking 20 school buses on top of each other! This hill is made of special rock that came from deep inside the Earth a super long time ago.

People have loved Prospect Hill for about 30,000 years! That's way, way before even your grandparents were born. It was a super important spot for the First Nations people. They used it as a place to meet, to know where they were going, and to mark where one area ended and another began. It was like a natural signpost for them.

For a very long time, people have been digging rocks out of Prospect Hill. These rocks are special and are used to build roads and other things. It's like the hill is giving us building blocks! But guess what? The hill used to be even taller, about 14 meters higher! It's like if someone took the top off a tall building. This digging has been happening for over 180 years!

When new people came to Australia, they gave some land to people who used to be prisoners so they could farm. Prospect Hill was one of the first places this happened! But it wasn't always easy, and there were sometimes arguments between the new people and the First Nations people. Today, the hill is still important for its beauty and for the rocks it provides.
