Indigenous Australians

Long, long ago, even before the dinosaurs, people called Indigenous Australians started living in the amazing land of Australia. They are the Aboriginal peoples and the Torres Strait Islander peoples. They have been there for more time than you can imagine, like over 50,000 years! That's older than any castle or pyramid you've ever seen. They are the original caretakers of this special place.

These First Peoples knew Australia like the back of their hand. They were super smart at finding food and water. Some groups were like amazing chefs, knowing which plants were yummy and safe to eat. Others were like expert fishermen, catching fish from the rivers and the sea. They built homes from things they found in nature, like leaves and branches, and some even farmed their own food!

Indigenous Australians have incredible stories that have been passed down for ages. These stories teach important lessons about life, the land, and the stars. They also have beautiful music and dances that tell these stories. Imagine singing songs that your great-great-great-great-grandparents also sang! It's like a living history book that you can see and hear.

Today, Indigenous Australians have their own special flags that show who they are. The Aboriginal flag is black, red, and yellow, and the Torres Strait Islander flag has a white dancer and star on a blue and green background. These flags are very important and are even official flags of Australia. They are a reminder of the long and rich history of the First Peoples.
