Where is This Ancient Island?

Ireland is a beautiful island in the Atlantic Ocean, west of a bigger place called Great Britain. Long ago, it was a bit different! The people who lived there didn't have roads or big cities like we do.

They lived in a land with lots of green hills and sometimes very wet, squishy bogs. These bogs are super important because they helped keep old things safe for a very, very long time, like treasures hidden in the mud!

When Did People Arrive?

People first came to Ireland a super long time ago, even before the pyramids were built in Egypt! Some clues show people were there as early as 10,500 BC. That's so long ago, it's hard to even imagine! It means they arrived after the giant ice sheets melted and the land became safe to live on. They were some of the very first people to call this island home.

Amazing Treasures from the Past!

People in ancient Ireland were very clever. During the Bronze Age, they were amazing at finding and working with gold! They made beautiful jewelry that we can still see today. They also built huge stone tombs, called megalithic tombs, which are like ancient stone houses for important people. Some of these tombs are so big, they are taller than a giraffe!

What Did They Do All Day?

Life was very different back then. People hunted, fished, and farmed. They learned how to make tools from stone and later from metal like bronze. They also made things from plants and animal hair, like fishing nets and even clothes! The bogs helped save these amazing finds, like a special time capsule, showing us how they lived.
