Meet the Brave Explorer!
Imagine setting sail on a huge ship a super long time ago! That's what Pedro Álvares Cabral did. He was a Portuguese explorer, like a super-smart captain.
He was born around 1467 or 1468. He came from a noble family, which meant his family was important. He got a good education and learned all about sailing and the world.
He was chosen to lead a big trip to India to find yummy spices, but something amazing happened on the way!
A Surprise Land Ahoy!
Cabral was sailing his fleet of 13 ships across the big ocean. He sailed so far west that he found land nobody from Europe had seen before! He thought it was just a big island, but it was actually a whole continent: South America!
He claimed this new land for Portugal, and it later became known as Brazil. This was a HUGE discovery! He was the first person ever to set foot on four different continents: Europe, Africa, America, and Asia.
Spices and Storms!
After finding Brazil, Cabral continued his journey to India to get spices like pepper and cinnamon. But the trip was tough! A big storm scattered his ships, and he lost some of them.
When he finally got to India, there were problems with other traders. Cabral had to fight to protect his ships and crew. He eventually got the spices he wanted from a friendly city called Cochin and sailed back to Portugal.
Even with the troubles, his trip made Portugal a lot of money!
