Palace of Cortés, Cuernavaca

This amazing building in Mexico is called the Palace of Cortés. It's like a giant stone house that's super, super old! It was built a long, long time ago, between 1523 and 1528. That's even older than your grandparents' grandparents! It's the oldest building from when Europeans first came to America that you can still see today. It looks a bit like a castle with strong walls and a cool design.

A famous explorer named Hernán Cortés wanted a special home. He was a bit like a superhero adventurer! He built this palace for himself and his wife. Before the palace was built, there was a place where people gave gifts to the rulers. Cortés built his home right on top of it! It was a way for him to show everyone he was in charge now.

This palace didn't just stay a home. Later, soldiers used it as a place to sleep and keep people who were in trouble. Even a famous freedom fighter named José María Morelos y Pavón was kept there! After Mexico became free, it was the main office for the whole state for a long time. Now, it's a museum where you can see cool things about the past!

Even though it's very old, the palace is still here! It's been through a lot, including a big earthquake in 2017. But people worked hard to fix it up. It reopened in 2023 as a museum called the Regional Museum of the People’s of Morelos. It’s a place where everyone can learn about the history of the people who lived in that area.
