Key Facts
Where is Morelos?
Imagine a special place in Mexico, not too big, not too small, but just right! Morelos is like a cozy corner in south-central Mexico. It’s surrounded by other Mexican states and even Mexico City, which is like its big neighbor.
It doesn't touch the ocean, so it's called landlocked, like a treasure chest hidden inland. Most of the time, the sun shines brightly, making it warm and perfect for growing yummy sugar cane!
A Land Born from a Hero!
This special land wasn't always called Morelos. A long, long time ago, it was part of a much bigger place. But then, a brave leader named President Benito Juárez decided to make it its own state in 1869.
He named it after a hero called José María Morelos y Pavón. This hero was super brave and defended a town called Cuautla during a big fight for freedom in Mexico. So, Morelos is named after a real-life hero!
Dancing and Delicious Treats!
Get ready for a party! Morelos is famous for its amazing Chinelos. These are dancers who wear super colorful and fancy costumes, often with big masks. They dance and jump around during special festivals, especially Carnival. It's like a giant, happy parade! Plus, the warm weather is perfect for growing sugar cane, which is used to make sweet treats. Yum!
Amazing Old Buildings and Sunny Days
Morelos has some really cool old buildings called monasteries. They are built on the sides of a giant volcano named Popocatépetl. These monasteries are so special that they are recognized all around the world! People have been visiting this sunny place for a very, very long time, even when the Aztecs were around. It's a place with history, beauty, and sunshine.
