The Northwestern Confederacy: A Mighty Native American Alliance!

The Northwestern Confederacy was a group of Native American tribes who lived in a big area called the Great Lakes region. Think of a giant playground with lots of trees, sparkling lakes, and rivers! This land was their home, and they knew every path and secret spot. It was a beautiful place with four seasons, from snowy winters to warm, sunny summers perfect for playing outside.

After a big war called the American Revolution, the United States started to grow. People called settlers began moving into the Native Americans' lands. The tribes, who were like separate families before, decided to team up! They formed the Northwestern Confederacy to stand strong together and protect their homes and way of life from the new people arriving.

The people in the Confederacy were very brave and clever. They had leaders who were wise and helped everyone work together. They even had a special name for themselves: the United Indian Nations. Sometimes, grown-ups thought the Miami tribe was the most important because their main village was big, but it was really a team effort from many different tribes!

The Confederacy was like a shield for their land. They didn't want the settlers to take over. They even fought battles, like the Battle of Fallen Timbers, to defend their homes. Even though they sometimes lost, their spirit of working together and protecting their land was super strong and inspired others later on!
