Key Facts
Meet the Natufians!
Long, long ago, even before your grandparents' grandparents were born, lived a group of people called the Natufians. They lived in a place called the Near East, which is now part of countries like Israel and Jordan. What's super cool is that they were some of the first people to decide to stay put in one village instead of always moving around to find food.
They built homes and lived together, which was a big change!
What Did They Do?
The Natufians were clever! They didn't have farms like we do today, but they knew how to find yummy wild grains, like wheat and barley, to eat. They were also great hunters, often chasing after speedy mountain gazelles. They even invented tools to help them grind these grains into flour. Think of it like using a special rock to mash up berries, but for grains!
Super Surprising Discoveries!
Scientists found amazing things from the Natufians. In a cave in Jordan, they found evidence that the Natufians might have made bread-like food over 14,000 years ago! That's older than the pyramids! They also found clues that they might have even tried to make a fizzy drink, kind of like ancient beer, over 13,000 years ago. Wow!
Why They're Important Today
The Natufians are super important because they might be the ancestors of people who started farming for the very first time! They were like the first step towards the world we live in now, where many people live in towns and cities and grow their own food. They showed everyone that staying in one place and working together could be a great way to live.
