Meet the Tallest Giant!

Imagine a super tall mountain, even taller than a skyscraper! That's Mount Carleton! It's the highest point in the whole province of New Brunswick, Canada.

It stands at 820 meters, which is like stacking 20 school buses on top of each other! It's so big, you can see it from far away, and it's a special part of a long walking trail called the International Appalachian Trail. It's a rocky giant that has been around for a super long time.

A Mountain Made of Old Rocks!

This mountain isn't made of fluffy snow like some you might see in pictures. Mount Carleton is made of very, very old, hard rocks. These rocks are about 400 million years old!

That's way, way older than the dinosaurs! These special rocks are like a tough shield that didn't wear away as much as the land around it when wind, water, and ice worked on the land for millions of years. It’s like a leftover piece from a giant ancient puzzle!

Guarding the Forest!

A long time ago, before we had airplanes and satellites to watch for fires, people used to climb to the very top of Mount Carleton. They would sit in a little hut and look out for any smoke from wildfires. If they saw smoke, they could quickly tell people where the fire was so it could be put out.

It was like being a superhero lookout for the whole forest, helping to keep the trees and animals safe!

A Park for Everyone to Explore!

Mount Carleton is inside a beautiful place called Mount Carleton Provincial Park. This park is a wonderful home for many plants and animals. People love to visit the park to hike, explore, and enjoy nature. The mountain itself is a big part of why the park is so special. It’s a place where you can learn about rocks, history, and enjoy the amazing views from high up!
