Lorraine

Lorraine is a special place in the eastern part of France. A long, long time ago, it was a kingdom called Lotharingia! Now, it's part of a bigger French region called Grand Est.

Think of it like a neighborhood that used to be its own town. Lorraine has lots of smaller towns and villages, and its biggest city is Nancy. People who live there are called Lorrains or Lorraines.

It's a place with a very interesting past!

Lorraine is located in the northeastern corner of France. It's like the top-right part of a puzzle piece. It has neighbors! To the north, it touches three other countries: Germany, Belgium, and Luxembourg. So, if you were there, you could almost wave to people in different countries! It's a place where different cultures meet and mingle, making it a unique spot on the map.

Did you know Lorraine used to be a kingdom? It was called Lotharingia, named after an emperor or king named Lothair. This kingdom was super big, stretching much further north than Lorraine is today.

Later, it became a Duchy, which is like a smaller territory ruled by a Duke. For many years, France wanted to make this land part of its own country, and it finally happened in 1766. So, Lorraine has a history of being ruled by kings and dukes!

Lorraine is home to about 2.3 million people, which is like filling up a giant stadium many, many times over! The biggest city where people live and work is Nancy. This city was once the home of the dukes who ruled Lorraine. Even though it's not a kingdom anymore, it still has a special place in France's history and is known for its beautiful landscapes and interesting past.
