Where is Belgium?
Imagine a country tucked away in the corner of Europe, like a cozy blanket! Belgium is in Northwestern Europe, right by the big, blue North Sea. It has neighbors like the Netherlands, Germany, Luxembourg, and France. It's not a huge country, about the size of the state of Maryland in the USA. Even though it's small, it's packed with fun things to see and do!
A Land of Many Voices!
Belgium is super special because people there speak different languages! Most people speak Dutch, but many also speak French. There's even a small group who speak German. It's like having different languages spoken in different classrooms at your school. This makes Belgium a very interesting place with lots of different traditions and ways of life.
Belgium's Busy Past
Long, long ago, brave tribes lived in Belgium. Later, it became part of the mighty Roman Empire. Over hundreds of years, many different kings and queens ruled Belgium, and it was even called the 'Battlefield of Europe' because many important fights happened there. But the people of Belgium are strong and built their own country in 1830!
Chocolate, Waffles, and Fun!
Did you know Belgium is famous for its delicious chocolate and yummy waffles? You might have tried them! People in Belgium also love to invent things. It was one of the first places in Europe to have trains! Today, its capital city, Brussels, is a very important place for Europe, where big decisions are made.
