Key Facts
Meet the Big Island!
The Kingdom of Great Britain was like a giant island playground! It was made by joining England and Scotland together. This big island is in Western Europe, where the Atlantic Ocean meets the North Sea. It's a place with lots of green hills, rocky coasts, and sometimes rainy weather. Think of it as one big country that used to be two smaller ones, all living together on one large landmass.
When Two Became One!
A long, long time ago, England and Scotland were separate kingdoms. But in 1707, they decided to team up! They signed a special agreement called the Treaty of Union. This meant they shared one king or queen and one big parliament, like a school council for the whole island. It was a bit like when your class and another class join together for a special project.
Who Lived There?
People in Great Britain loved their traditions! They had different ways of celebrating and different foods. Even though they were one kingdom, England and Scotland kept some of their own special rules and even their own churches. Imagine if your school had two different clubs, but everyone was still part of the same big school community.
Working and Learning Together
People in Great Britain worked in farms and in growing towns. They traded goods with other countries, like selling wool and buying spices. They also had schools, but each part of the kingdom had its own way of teaching. It was a time of big changes, with new ideas and new ways of doing things popping up all over the island.
