Key Facts
Meet the Karakoram Mountains!
The Karakoram is a huge chain of mountains, like a giant rocky backbone! It stretches across parts of Pakistan, China, and India. Think of it as a super-long playground with the highest slides you can imagine.
These mountains are so tall, they are like giants sleeping in the sky. They are home to some of the tallest mountains on Earth, even taller than a hundred giraffes stacked on top of each other!
Where the Ice Giants Live
Even though it's not near the North or South Pole, the Karakoram is the iciest place on Earth! It has massive rivers of ice called glaciers. Two of these glaciers are so long, they are the second and third longest in the whole world, after the ones in the freezing polar regions. These glaciers are like slow-moving ice rivers that carve through the mountains.
The King of the Peaks: K2!
The Karakoram is home to K2, the second-highest mountain on our whole planet! It's a super-challenging climb, and only the bravest climbers try to reach its top. There are other giant mountains too, with four of them being over 8,000 meters tall. That's taller than many airplanes fly! These mountains are so big, they look like they touch the clouds.
A Path Through the Peaks
Long ago, people used a special path called the Karakoram Pass to travel between different places. It was like a secret road through the mountains for trading and visiting. Even though it's not used much now, it reminds us that people have been exploring and traveling through this amazing mountain range for a very long time.
