The July Ultimatum: A Super Important Note!

The July Ultimatum was like a very, very stern warning. It was a list of demands, like when your parents tell you to clean your room or else! But this warning was from Austria-Hungary to Serbia, and it was super important because it led to a huge war. It was written in July, which is why it's called the July Ultimatum. It had 10 big demands that Serbia had to agree to very quickly, or else!

This whole mess started because a prince named Archduke Franz Ferdinand was visiting a place called Sarajevo. While he was there, someone who was angry about Austria-Hungary's rules shot and killed him. Austria-Hungary was super mad and blamed Serbia for letting it happen. They decided to send this very tough warning, the July Ultimatum, to Serbia to make them pay and to show they were serious.

This ultimatum was a really big deal because it was like a ticking time bomb! Serbia agreed to almost all the demands, which was pretty brave. But they couldn't agree to everything.

Because they didn't agree to every single thing, Austria-Hungary decided to start a war. This war was so big it involved many countries and changed the world a lot. It was like one argument leading to a giant playground fight that everyone joined!

After Serbia couldn't agree to all the demands, Austria-Hungary declared war on them. Then, other countries that were friends with Serbia, like Russia, got involved. And countries that were friends with Austria-Hungary, like Germany, jumped in too.

Soon, it was a giant war called World War I. It all started because of that one very serious warning, the July Ultimatum, and the difficult choices Serbia had to make.
