Meet the Brave Explorer!

John Cabot was an explorer who lived a super long time ago, around the year 1450. He was born in Italy, a country far away. John loved the sea and dreamed of discovering new places. He was like a super-detective, but instead of looking for clues on land, he looked for new lands across the big, blue ocean!

Sailing to a New World!

John Cabot sailed on a big ship for the King of England. His most famous trip was in 1497. He sailed across the Atlantic Ocean, which is HUGE! He was looking for a new way to Asia, but he ended up finding the coast of North America! This was a really big deal because it was the first time Europeans had seen this part of North America in hundreds of years.

Where Did He Land?

No one is exactly sure where John Cabot first stepped onto North America. But many people think he landed in a place called Newfoundland, which is part of Canada today. To celebrate 500 years since his trip, both Canada and Britain agreed that a place called Cape Bonavista in Newfoundland was probably where he first landed. It’s like finding a hidden treasure!

Why We Remember John Cabot

John Cabot is remembered because his voyages helped Europeans learn about North America. Even though he wasn't the very first person to see it, his trip was super important for showing others the way. It was like drawing a new map for everyone to follow. His adventures helped start a new chapter in history for both Europe and North America.
