The King Who Loved to Rule!

Imagine a king who was super strong and loved being in charge! That was Henry VIII. He was born a long, long time ago, on June 28, 1491, in a place called Greenwich in England. He became king when he was just 17 years old and stayed king until he died. He was a very important person in England's story, and people still talk about him today because he made some HUGE changes.

Six Wives and a Big Problem!

Henry VIII is most famous for having six wives! That's a lot of queens! He really wanted a son to be the next king, but his first wife, Catherine of Aragon, didn't have a son who lived. Henry wanted to marry someone else to try for a son, but the Pope (the head of the church) said no. This made Henry very angry, and he decided to make his own church in England!

Making His Own Rules!

Because Henry wanted his own way, he started the Church of England. This meant England didn't have to listen to the Pope anymore. He became the boss of his own church! He also made England stronger by building up its navy, which is like its fleet of fighting ships. He even made Wales a part of England and became the first King of Ireland!

A King's Big Changes

Henry VIII was a king who loved fancy things and building. He spent a lot of money, sometimes so much that he was almost broke! He was also a writer and a musician. When he got older, he became very big and his health wasn't great. He was a powerful king who made England very different from how it was before.
