Key Facts
A Princess from Far Away!
Imagine a princess named Catherine, born a long, long time ago in sunny Spain. Her mom and dad were super important rulers! When she was just a little girl, about your age, she was promised to marry a prince in England.
It was like a special agreement for the future. She traveled all the way to England to meet her prince, Arthur. They got married, but sadly, Arthur got sick and passed away very soon after.
This was a very sad time for young Catherine.
Queen of England!
Even though her first prince died, Catherine stayed in England. Years later, she married Arthur's younger brother, Henry. He became King Henry VIII, and Catherine became his queen!
She was the Queen of England for many years. She even helped rule the country when King Henry was away fighting battles. She was like a co-captain, making sure everything was okay back home.
She gave a big, inspiring speech to her soldiers when they had to fight an invading army!
A Queen's Tough Choices
Being a queen wasn't always easy. Catherine wanted to have a son to be the next king, but she only had a daughter named Mary. King Henry really wanted a son and decided he wanted to marry someone else.
He asked the Pope, who was like the boss of the church back then, to say his marriage to Catherine wasn't real. But the Pope said no! This made King Henry very angry, and he decided to break away from the church.
It was a huge deal!
Remembered for Her Strength
Even though King Henry didn't want to be married to Catherine anymore, she never gave up. She believed she was still his rightful queen. She was sent away from the castle to live in a different, quieter place.
Even though she was treated unfairly, people in England still liked her a lot and thought she was very strong. She was known for being kind to poor people and for being very smart. Her daughter Mary eventually became queen too!
