Key Facts
Where is Greece?
Greece is a country in Europe, like a big boot kicking a ball! It has lots of islands, like sprinkles on a cake. Many of these islands are in the big blue sea called the Mediterranean. The land can be very hilly and mountainous, making it tricky for armies to march through. It can get very sunny and warm there in the summer!
A Surprise Attack!
One day, Italy decided to try and take over Greece. But the brave Greek soldiers, with a little help from friends like Britain, fought back really hard! They were so strong that the Italians couldn't win. It was like a playground game where the underdog team suddenly became super strong!
Then Came the Germans!
After the Italians couldn't win, Germany decided to try. They were like a bigger, stronger kid on the playground. They attacked Greece from a different direction, and it was a very tough fight. The Greek soldiers were outnumbered, like trying to fight two bullies at once!
A Tough Time for Greece
The German army marched all the way to the capital city, Athens. They also captured the island of Crete. It was a difficult time for Greece, and it was occupied by German, Italian, and Bulgarian soldiers. This was part of a much bigger fight happening all over the world called World War II.
