Key Facts
Meet the Giant Island!
Imagine a super long island, like a giant ruler stretching out in the sea! That's Euboea, the second biggest island in Greece, after Crete. It's so long, it's about as long as 180 soccer fields lined up end-to-end! It's shaped like a long, skinny snake, and it's home to lots of amazing things. It's a special place where the land meets the sparkling blue sea.
A Super Narrow Watery Road!
Euboea is so close to the land that sometimes it's only as wide as a few school buses parked side-by-side! This super narrow strip of water is called the Euripus Strait. It's like a tiny river separating the island from the mainland. You can almost reach across it! This closeness means it's easy for people and things to travel back and forth between the island and the rest of Greece.
Mountains and More!
This long island isn't flat like a pancake! It has big, tall mountains running all the way down its middle, like a bumpy backbone. These mountains are part of a huge mountain chain that stretches across Greece. Think of them as giant green waves frozen in time. These mountains make Euboea a beautiful place with lots of different kinds of nature to explore, from rocky peaks to hidden valleys.
Island Life!
People have lived on Euboea for a very, very long time! They speak Greek and have their own special ways of doing things. Life on an island is a bit different from the mainland. People might work with the sea, like fishing, or on the land, growing yummy food. Euboea is a place full of history and friendly people who love their island home.
