Meet the Ice Giants!

The Ellsworth Mountains are like a super long chain of mountains in Antarctica, the coldest place on Earth! They are the highest mountains on the whole continent. Think of them as a giant spine made of rock, poking out from under a thick blanket of ice.

They stretch for a really long way, longer than many football fields put together. These mountains are so big, they are split into two parts by a giant river of ice called Minnesota Glacier.

Where the Snow Never Melts!

These mountains are found in a very special place called Marie Byrd Land, on the edge of a huge frozen sea called the Ronne Ice Shelf. It's so cold here that snow and ice cover everything, all year round! The air is super dry and windy.

Because it's so cold and icy, not many plants can grow here, and it's a very wild and empty place. It's like a giant, frozen playground that very few people ever get to visit.

The Tallest Peak of All!

The most amazing part of the Ellsworth Mountains is Mount Vinson. It's the highest point in all of Antarctica! It’s super, super tall, reaching up to 16,050 feet.

That’s way taller than any building you’ve ever seen, and even taller than many airplanes fly! Imagine standing on top of it – you’d be looking down on a whole continent of ice. It’s a truly spectacular sight, like a king’s crown made of snow and rock.

A Land of Ice and Adventure!

Even though no one lives here permanently, these mountains are important because they are part of Antarctica. Scientists sometimes visit to study the ice and the rocks, learning about our planet's past. The Ellsworth Mountains are a reminder of how big and amazing our Earth is, with incredible places hidden away in its coldest corners.

They are a wild and beautiful part of our world, covered in a frosty, icy coat.
