Population
No permanent residents, only visiting scientists.
Fun Fact
Most of the Antarctic is covered by ice that is over a mile thick!

Where is This Frozen Land?

The Antarctic is like Earth's super-cold basement, right at the very bottom! It's a giant continent called Antarctica, and it's surrounded by a big ocean. It's so far south that it's always chilly, even in the summer. Think of it as the opposite of the North Pole, which is way up north!

What's it Like There?

It's mostly covered in a HUGE blanket of ice, thicker than many buildings stacked up! This ice is so heavy it makes the land underneath sink down. There are also icy shelves that float on the water. It's super windy and very, very cold, but amazing animals like penguins and seals call it home!

Who Lives in the Antarctic?

No one lives there all the time like we do in our towns. But scientists from all over the world visit to study the ice and the animals. They live in special research stations. You won't find any countries or cities here, just lots of ice and amazing wildlife!

Why is it Special?

The Antarctic is super important for our whole planet! The giant ice there helps keep Earth cool. If it melts too much, it can make the oceans rise, which is a big problem. It's a special place that scientists are working hard to protect.
