Commonwealth of Independent States

The Commonwealth of Independent States, or CIS for short, is like a club of countries mostly found in Eastern Europe and Asia. Think of a giant puzzle piece that used to be part of a much bigger picture! It's a huge area, much bigger than the United States. Some countries in the CIS are Russia, Belarus, and Kazakhstan. They share lots of land and sometimes even the same weather!

A long, long time ago, many of these countries were all part of one giant country called the Soviet Union. But in 1991, that big country split up into many smaller ones. The CIS was formed so these new countries could still be friends and help each other out, like sharing ideas or working on important projects together. The main language spoken in many CIS countries is Russian, but each country also has its own special languages. They trade lots of cool things, like oil, gas, and even yummy food! Imagine if your town traded toys with another town to get new games. That's kind of what countries do. They have different things they are good at making or finding, and they share them.

The CIS isn't a country itself, but more like a special club where countries agree to work together on things like peace, security, and helping each other with big problems.
