Who's That Fluffy Friend?

Imagine a super fluffy dog, but it lives where it's always cold! That's the Arctic fox. It has a thick, warm coat that keeps it toasty, and it can change color!

In the summer, it might be brown or gray to blend in with rocks and plants. But in winter, it turns bright white, like a snowball, to hide in the snow. Its tail is also super fluffy, and it uses it like a warm blanket to wrap around itself when it sleeps.

A Tiny Hunter in a Big White World

Arctic foxes are small, about as long as a big school backpack. They are super speedy hunters! They listen carefully for tiny creatures like lemmings and voles moving under the snow. Then, they pounce with all their might! They also love to eat fish, birds, and even berries when they can find them. They are very clever and will eat leftovers from bigger animals too, like polar bears.

Cozy Homes and Big Families

Arctic foxes build cozy homes called dens, which are like underground tunnels. They dig these dens in hillsides or under rocks. When it's time to have babies, called pups, a mommy and daddy fox stay together to take care of them. Sometimes, other family members help out, bringing food to the little pups. It’s like a big, furry family helping each other stay safe and fed.

Surviving the Super Cold!

These foxes are built for the cold! Their fur is so thick, it's like wearing a super warm winter coat all the time. Their paws have fur on the bottom too, so they don't get cold when they walk on ice and snow. They also have a round body shape, which helps them keep their body heat in, just like how a round ball loses less heat than a flat shape.
