Key Facts

Contains 67.3% of Earth's land.
Water Percentage
Surface is 60.7% water.
Fun Fact
It's home to the North Pole!

Where is the Top Half?

The Northern Hemisphere is like the top slice of a pizza if you cut Earth right through the middle, called the equator. It's everything north of that imaginary line! Think of it as the half that gets the North Pole. It's a super big place, holding most of the world's land, like all of North America and Europe, and a big chunk of Africa too. It's where you'll find lots of countries and people!

Seasons: Sunny Days and Snowy Nights!

Because Earth is a little tilted, like a spinning top leaning over, the Northern Hemisphere has different seasons. When it's summer here, the sun shines longer, making days warm and perfect for playing outside. When it's winter, the days are shorter, and it can get cold enough for snow!

Spring and autumn are the in-between times, with changing leaves and blooming flowers. It's like Earth has its own yearly calendar of weather!

Ocean Superhighway!

Did you know oceans have giant rivers flowing in them? In the Northern Hemisphere, these ocean currents move in big circles, like a giant washing machine! The wind pushes the water, and a special force called the Coriolis effect makes the water curve.

These currents help move heat around the planet, which can make the weather different in faraway places. It’s like a global delivery system for warmth!

Lots of Land, Lots of Life!

More than half of all the land on Earth is in the Northern Hemisphere! That means it has huge continents like North America and Eurasia (which is Europe and Asia together). It also has about two-thirds of Africa.

Because there's so much land, it's home to billions of people and countless animals. This half of the planet has deserts, forests, mountains, and big cities, making it a very diverse place to explore!
