Key Facts

What is a Biome
A large area on Earth with similar climate, plants, and animals.
Examples of Biomes
Forests, deserts, grasslands, oceans, tundra, freshwater.
What Shapes a Biome
Climate (temperature and rainfall) and geography.
Fun Fact
The largest biome on Earth is the ocean, covering most of our planet!

Where Do Biomes Live?

Biomes are like huge neighborhoods all over our planet! Some are super hot and dry, like deserts where you might find a cactus. Others are freezing cold, like the Arctic, where polar bears roam. There are also wet and rainy places, like rainforests, full of chattering monkeys and colorful birds. Think of them as Earth's big, different rooms, each with its own special vibe and residents!

What Makes a Biome Special?

Each biome has its own special weather, called climate. Some are hot and sunny most of the year, while others get lots of snow and ice. This climate decides what kinds of plants can grow there. Tall trees might live in a forest, but only small bushes can survive in a windy grassland. And the plants help decide which animals can call that biome home!

Meet the Animals and Plants!

Every biome is like a giant playground for its plants and animals! In the hot desert, you might see a camel that can go a long time without water. In the cold tundra, a furry arctic fox has thick fur to stay warm. In the ocean biome, you'll find amazing fish and maybe even a giant whale! These living things are perfectly suited to their homes.

Why Biomes Matter to You!

Biomes are super important because they give us so many things we need! Forests give us air to breathe and wood for building. Oceans give us food and help control our weather. Even deserts have cool plants and animals that are important to the Earth. Learning about biomes helps us understand our amazing planet and how to take care of it!
