1986 FIFA World Cup

Imagine a super-duper soccer tournament where countries from all over the world play against each other. That was the 1986 FIFA World Cup! It happened in Mexico, a colorful country with yummy food and sunny weather. This was the 13th time this amazing game happened, and it was a huge celebration of soccer skills. Teams traveled from far and wide to show off their best kicks and passes.

Mexico was chosen to host this giant soccer party. It was extra special because Mexico had hosted it before, way back in 1970! They were super excited to welcome everyone. This tournament was bigger than ever, with 24 teams playing. Some countries, like Canada, Denmark, and Iraq, got to play in the World Cup for the very first time. It was like a brand new playground for them!

The star of this World Cup was a player named Diego Maradona from Argentina. He was like a soccer superhero! In one game against England, he scored two super famous goals. One was called the 'Hand of God' goal, where he used his hand (oops!). The other was voted the 'Goal of the Century' because it was so amazing. He scored five goals in total and helped his teammates score five more!

Argentina, led by their amazing captain Diego Maradona, won the whole tournament! They beat West Germany in the final game. It was a thrilling match! Lots and lots of people came to watch, filling up the stadiums. The total number of fans was almost 2.4 million, which is more people than live in some big cities! Everyone cheered and celebrated the incredible soccer.
