Who Was Willie Lincoln?

Willie Lincoln was the third son of President Abraham Lincoln and his wife, Mary Todd Lincoln. Imagine living in the biggest, most famous house in America, the White House! That's where Willie lived. He was born a long, long time ago, in 1850. He had two older brothers, Robert and Eddie, and later a younger brother named Tad.

A Boy in the White House

Willie was a curious and bright boy. He loved to explore the big White House and learn new things. His dad, President Lincoln, was very busy leading the country, but he loved his sons very much. Willie was named after his mom's brother-in-law, Dr. William Smith Wallace. He was a special part of the Lincoln family during a very important time in history.

A Sad Goodbye

Sadly, when Willie was only 11 years old, he got very sick with a fever called typhoid fever. He was so sick that he passed away in the White House. It was a very sad time for President Lincoln and his whole family. Losing a child is one of the hardest things anyone can go through.

Remembering Willie

Even though Willie didn't live a long life, he is remembered as a loved son and brother. He was part of a famous American family during a time when the country was going through a big challenge called the Civil War. His story reminds us that even presidents have families with joys and sadness.
