Abraham Lincoln

Imagine a president who was super tall, like a giant on stilts! Abraham Lincoln was 6 feet 4 inches tall, which was much taller than most people back then. He was born a long, long time ago, in 1809, in a small log cabin. Even though he didn't have fancy schools, he loved to read and learn. He became a very important leader for the United States.

Abraham Lincoln became president when the country was having a huge argument. Some states wanted to leave the United States and start their own country. This led to a big war called the Civil War. Lincoln worked very hard to keep the country together. He was like a captain trying to steer a ship through a stormy sea, making sure it didn't break apart.

One of the most amazing things Lincoln did was help end slavery. Slavery meant that some people were owned by others and forced to work without pay. Lincoln believed this was very wrong. He made a special announcement called the Emancipation Proclamation, which declared that many enslaved people were free. This was a giant step towards fairness for everyone in America.

Even though Abraham Lincoln lived a long time ago and sadly passed away in 1865, people still talk about him today. He is remembered as a hero because he saved the country and helped make it a fairer place. His face is even on the penny and the five-dollar bill, so you see him all the time!
