The White House

The White House is a very special house in Washington, D.C. It's where the President of the United States lives with their family. Building the White House started way back in 1792. It took eight years to finish! The first president to live there was John Adams. The house has been painted white to cover up the marks from the stone it was built with. It's been through a lot, like being burned down by enemies and then rebuilt!

The White House is super important because it's the center of the U.S. government. Big decisions that affect everyone in the country are made here. It's also a symbol of America, like a flag or an eagle. When people see the White House, they think of the United States and its leaders.

Inside the White House, there are 132 rooms! That's more rooms than in most big hotels. There's a special room called the Oval Office where the President does their work. There are also places for parties, dinners, and even a movie theater! It's like a busy office and a fancy home all in one.
