Who Was This Mighty William?

William wasn't born a king, but he was a Duke in a place called Normandy, which is in France. He was born around the year 1028. He was a strong leader and was known for being very brave. He had a big dream: to become the King of England! He spent many years planning and getting ready for his chance to make that dream come true.

The Big Battle for the Crown!

William wanted the English crown very badly. In 1066, he sailed across the sea with his army to England. He fought a super important battle called the Battle of Hastings. It was a long and tough fight, but William and his soldiers were victorious! This win meant he finally became King of England, and everyone started calling him William the Conqueror.

What Did King William Do?

As king, William made lots of changes. He built strong castles all over England to keep his kingdom safe. He also made sure everyone knew who was in charge. He even had a giant book made, called the Domesday Book, that listed all the land and who owned it. It was like a super-detailed map and list of everything in his kingdom!

Why We Still Remember William

William the Conqueror changed England forever! His invasion and rule brought new people, new ideas, and a new language (French words mixed with English!). The castles he built still stand today, and the way England was run changed a lot because of him. He's remembered as one of the most important kings in English history.
