Fun Fact
The Bayeux Tapestry, a long embroidered cloth, tells the whole story of the Norman Conquest!

Who Was William the Conqueror?

Once upon a time, in a land far away called Normandy, lived a brave leader named William. He was a Duke, which is like a very important boss! William had a dream to become the King of England.

He was a strong fighter and a clever planner. He believed he had a right to the English throne because the old king had promised it to him. This made him determined to sail across the sea and claim his prize!

The Big Battle of Hastings!

In 1066, William and his army sailed to England. The English king, Harold, had just fought another battle and his soldiers were tired. William's army was ready for a huge fight near a place called Hastings.

It was a long and fierce battle, with soldiers using swords, shields, and arrows. After a very long day, William's side won! King Harold was sadly defeated, and William became the new King of England.

What Changed After the Battle?

When William became king, lots of things changed! He brought new French words into the English language, so some words we use today come from that time. He also built strong castles all over England to show he was in charge. These castles were like giant fortresses, much bigger than your school! The Normans, William's people, became the new leaders, and England was never quite the same again.

Why We Remember This Day!

The Norman Conquest was a super important event because it completely changed England's history. It mixed the old English ways with the new Norman ways, creating a new culture. This event is still studied today because it shows how powerful leaders and big battles can shape countries for hundreds of years. It’s like a giant turning point in a storybook!
