Meet Harold: The Big Boss of England!

Harold Godwinson was a very important man in England a super long time ago, way before your grandparents were even born! He became the king of England for a little while. He was the last king from a group of people called the Anglo-Saxons. Think of him as the final boss in a video game before a new player takes over!

From Powerful Family to the Throne

Harold came from a really powerful family. His dad was so important he was like a super-earl! When his dad passed away, Harold took over his job. Then, the old king died without anyone to take his place. The wise people of England chose Harold to be their new king. He was probably the first king to get crowned in a very special place called Westminster Abbey.

Two Big Battles in One Year!

Harold had a super busy year as king! First, a challenger from Norway, named Harald Hardrada, tried to take over England. Harold marched his army all the way north and won a big battle against him! But just two weeks later, another challenger, William from a place called Normandy, invaded from the south. Harold had to march his tired army all the way back down to fight William.

The Famous Battle of Hastings

The last battle Harold fought was called the Battle of Hastings. It was a very, very important fight. Sadly, Harold was killed in this battle. The person who won was William, who then became the new king of England. This big change is called the Norman Conquest, and it changed England forever!
