Uppsala Cathedral

Uppsala Cathedral is a super big church in Sweden, like a giant stone castle! It's so tall, it's the tallest church in all the Nordic countries. That means it's taller than many giraffes stacked on top of each other! It's made mostly of bricks, which are like big, hard building blocks, and has pretty white stone details. It looks like a giant cross from above, with long arms and a body.

This amazing church has a very special job. It was where new kings and queens of Sweden got crowned for a long, long time. It's also where some of them are buried, like King Eric IX, who was a very important king. Think of it like a special resting place for important people from history. It’s a place where history happened and where you can still feel the past.

Guess what? The people who designed this huge church came all the way from France! They were super skilled builders who knew how to make buildings look amazing. They started building it a super long time ago, way back in 1272. It took many, many years to finish, with different parts being built over hundreds of years. It’s like building with LEGOs, but on a gigantic scale!

Even though it's old, Uppsala Cathedral has cool secrets. Inside, there are beautiful paintings called frescoes, some of which were hidden for a long time and then found again! There's also a museum called the Treasury where you can see old treasures. Sadly, a big fire happened in 1702 and damaged some parts, but people fixed it up and made it beautiful again.
