Where Did These Rulers Come From?

A long, long time ago, in a land far away called the Abbasid Caliphate, there was a governor named Ahmad ibn Tulun. He was sent to Egypt to be in charge. But Ahmad was very clever and strong, and he decided he wanted to rule Egypt himself!

So, he started his own special kingdom, called the Tulunid dynasty. This happened way back in the year 868. It was like him saying, 'This is my kingdom now!' and everyone listened.

Building Big and Helping People!

The Tulunids were super builders! Their most famous building is the Mosque of Ibn Tulun in Cairo. It's so big, it's like a giant playground!

They also built amazing hospitals where sick people could get better. These hospitals were so advanced, they even had special rooms for people with different kinds of illnesses. They were like the first super-hospitals!

They also made sure people had water by building canals and wells.

Who Was the Boss?

The main boss was Ahmad ibn Tulun. He was the first ruler and made the dynasty strong. After him, his son Khumarawayh took over. Khumarawayh was a bit different; he loved fancy things and even had a pet lion! He tried to keep the kingdom going, but it was a big job. The Tulunids ruled for about 30 years, which is a long time for a kingdom to stay strong and independent.

Why We Still Remember Them!

Even though the Tulunid dynasty didn't last forever, they left behind amazing things. Their buildings, like the Mosque of Ibn Tulun, are still standing today! They showed everyone that Egypt could be a powerful place with its own rulers.

They were like the first superheroes of Egypt, showing everyone what they could achieve. Their story reminds us that even one person can start something big and important.
