Tenzing Norgay was born a long, long time ago, around 1914, in a country called Nepal, high up in the Himalayas. He was a Sherpa, which means he was part of a special group of people who are super good at climbing mountains. Tenzing loved the mountains so much, they felt like his home!
He was known for being incredibly strong and knowing the best paths up the snowy peaks. He was a true hero of the mountains!

The most amazing thing Tenzing did was climb Mount Everest, the tallest mountain on Earth! It's so tall, it's like climbing a mountain that's taller than 100 school buses stacked on top of each other! In 1953, Tenzing and his friend Edmund Hillary were the first people ever to reach the very tippy-top of Everest. They planted flags and felt like they were on top of the whole world!
