Where the Mountains Kiss the Sky!

Darjeeling is a city perched way up high in the Himalayas, like on the tippy-top of a giant's staircase! It's so high, it's like being on top of a really, really tall building, about 2,045 meters (or 6,709 feet) above the ground. From here, you can see the world's third-tallest mountain, Kangchenjunga, looking like a giant white crown on clear days.

It's surrounded by other countries and Indian states, making it a special spot right in the middle of amazing places.

A Cool Place for a Summer Break!

A long, long time ago, people from Britain thought Darjeeling was a perfect place to escape the hot weather. They got permission from a king to use the land and built pretty houses. They also discovered that tea plants grew super well on the hillsides!

So, they brought lots of workers to help clear the forests and plant the tea. They even built a tiny, special train that still runs today, carrying tea and people up and down the mountains!

Tea, Trains, and Happy Faces!

Darjeeling is famous for its delicious tea, which is loved all over the world! The special train, called the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, is so cool that it's been called a World Heritage Site, like a treasure for everyone. People visit Darjeeling to see the beautiful mountains, drink the amazing tea, and ride on that wonderful little train. It's a place full of yummy smells and fun adventures.

Learning and Growing in the Mountains

Kids in Darjeeling go to school just like you! They learn reading, writing, and math. Many people in Darjeeling speak a language called Nepali. The town has lots of different kinds of people who have come from different places over the years, making it a lively and interesting place. They work hard in the tea gardens and in the tourism places that welcome visitors from all over.
