Sydney Town Hall

Sydney Town Hall is like the heart of Sydney, Australia! It sits right in the middle of the city, on a street called George Street. It's so easy to find because it's right across from another famous building called the Queen Victoria Building, and next to a beautiful church. Lots of people meet here, like friends meeting for a playdate, because it's a super popular spot!

This amazing building wasn't built all at once. It took a super long time, from 1869 to 1889! That's longer than your parents have been alive! It was built by different teams of builders, like a giant LEGO project. It’s so old, it’s like a grandparent to many buildings in Sydney. It has been fixed up a bit to make sure it stays strong and beautiful.

Sydney Town Hall is a very busy place! It's where the boss of the city, called the Lord Mayor, has their office. It's also where other important people meet to talk about making the city a better place. Sometimes, there are big parties and special events held in its grand halls. It’s like a super important community center for grown-ups!

Guess what? Underneath Sydney Town Hall, there's a secret! It's built on top of an old burial ground. That means people were buried there a very, very long time ago. When they fixed up the building recently, they took out a LOT of rocks, like filling up a whole swimming pool with them! It’s like the building has a hidden history right beneath its feet.
