Where is Britain?

Britain is a big island, like a giant green playground, off the coast of Europe. It has lots of rain and green fields! For a very, very long time, people lived there. Even before castles were built, there were people living in Britain. It's a place with a long and interesting story.

When People Weren't Free

A long, long time ago, some people in Britain were not free. They were like toys that someone else owned. This was called slavery. It happened even before the Romans came to Britain, which was over 2,000 years ago! It was a sad time for many.

Sailing the Seas for Slaves

Later on, brave sailors from Britain started sailing across the big ocean, the Atlantic. They were part of something called the Transatlantic slave trade. They took people from Africa and brought them to other places. This happened for many years, until laws were made to stop it.

Making Things Right

Luckily, many people in Britain thought slavery was wrong. They worked hard to make it stop. In 1807, a new law said that Britain could not be part of the slave trade anymore! Later, more laws were made to make sure everyone in Britain was free.
