Meet the King Who Loved Words!

Once upon a time, in a land called Joseon, there was a super smart king named Sejong. He wasn't just any king; he was the fourth king of Joseon and ruled for a very long time, from 1418 to 1450. People loved him so much they called him 'Sejong the Great'!

He was like a superhero king, always thinking about how to make his country and his people happier and smarter. He was born a prince, but he became king and did amazing things that people still remember today.

The King's Big Idea: A New Alphabet!

Sejong the Great noticed that writing was really hard for most people. The letters were complicated and confusing! So, he had a brilliant idea: what if he created a brand new alphabet that was super easy to learn?

He worked with smart people to invent Hangul, which is the alphabet Koreans use today. It has simple shapes that look like the sounds they make. It was like giving everyone a special key to unlock reading and writing, making learning much easier for everyone.

More Than Just Letters!

King Sejong didn't stop at just creating an alphabet. He was interested in EVERYTHING! He helped invent the first Korean calendar so people knew when to plant crops and celebrate holidays.

He also supported the creation of books about medicine to help sick people get better and books about farming to grow more food. He was like a super-powered inventor king, always trying to improve life for his people with new ideas and inventions.

A King Remembered Forever!

Because Sejong the Great did so many wonderful things, especially creating the easy-to-learn Hangul alphabet, he is remembered as one of the most important kings in Korean history. Even today, there's a whole city named after him! He showed everyone that a king could be kind, smart, and dedicated to helping his people learn and thrive.

His legacy is like a shining star that continues to guide and inspire.
