Meet the Land of Ancient Kings!

Saqqara is a super old place in Egypt, not too far from where people live today. It's like a giant park, but instead of swings and slides, it has enormous stone tombs called pyramids and special flat-topped buildings called mastabas. These were built for kings and important people a very, very long time ago, even before your grandparents' grandparents were born!

It’s a place where history sleeps under the sand.

The Oldest Stone Building Ever!

The most famous thing at Saqqara is the Step Pyramid. It looks like giant stone steps going up to the sky! It’s the very first complete building made entirely of stone that we know of in the whole world.

It was built for a king named Djoser over 4,500 years ago. Imagine building something so big without any modern machines! It’s older than many castles and even older than some of the oldest trees.

A City for Sleepy Pharaohs

Saqqara was like a special city where Egyptian kings and queens went to rest after they died. They believed they would live on in another world. So, they built these huge tombs to keep their bodies and treasures safe. Many kings built their own pyramids here, and lots of other people built smaller tombs too. It was a busy place for burials for over 3,000 years!

More Than Just Pyramids!

Saqqara isn't just about the pyramids. It’s a huge area, about as long as 7 football fields! It also has many other amazing tombs and buildings.

It was so important that it was part of a bigger area called the 'Pyramid Fields of Memphis'. This whole area is so special that people from all over the world visit it, and it’s protected by a group called UNESCO. It’s a treasure chest of ancient Egyptian secrets!
