Where is Russia?

Russia is a HUGE country, the biggest in the whole world! It's so big that it stretches across two continents, Europe and Asia. Think of it like having a playground that goes from one side of your town to the other, and then keeps going!

It has cold, snowy places and also some warmer spots. The main city, where the government used to meet, is called Petrograd (which is now called Saint Petersburg). It's a place with lots of history and big buildings.

A Government That Didn't Stick Around

Once upon a time, a king and queen ruled Russia. But then, people wanted a change! They decided to try a new way of running the country, like a big team in charge instead of just one leader.

This new government was called the Russian Republic. It was like starting a new school club, but for a whole country! They even had a special day, September 14, 1917, when they officially said, 'We are now the Republic!' But this new government had a tough time, like trying to play a game when everyone is arguing.

Why Did It Disappear So Fast?

The new Russian Republic had a big problem. They decided to keep fighting in a giant war called World War I, even though many people were tired of it. This made everyone even more unhappy, and the country was struggling.

Then, another group of people, called the Bolsheviks, took over very quickly, like a surprise game of tag! They said, 'We are in charge now!' This happened on November 7, 1917. The Republic's leaders were sent away, and their new government was gone almost as fast as it started.

What Happened Next?

Even though the new government was gone, people still wanted to choose their leaders. So, they had an election to pick a special group of people to decide what kind of government Russia should have. This group met, and they said Russia should be a democratic country.

But the people who took over, the Bolsheviks, didn't like that! They broke up the meeting the very next day and took all the power for themselves. So, the Russian Republic was like a very short dream that ended quickly.
