Where is This Amazing Water?

Imagine a giant blue ribbon stretching between Africa and Asia – that’s the Red Sea! It’s like a secret watery path connecting to the big Indian Ocean. To the north, it has two little arms called the Gulf of Aqaba and the Gulf of Suez. One of these arms even leads to a super important shortcut called the Suez Canal. It’s a very special place on our planet!

A Sea That's Not Always Red!

Even though it's called the Red Sea, it’s usually a beautiful blue! Sometimes, tiny little plants called algae can make parts of it look reddish. This sea is also a tropical playground, meaning it’s warm and sunny. It’s the northernmost tropical sea in the whole world! Think of it as the warmest spot way up north in the ocean.

Home to Colorful Critters!

Get ready for a WOW! The Red Sea is packed with more than 1,000 different kinds of wiggly, squiggly invertebrates and 200 types of coral. That’s like having more than a thousand different kinds of sea bugs and two hundred different kinds of colorful underwater castles! These corals create amazing homes for all sorts of fish, making it a super busy and vibrant underwater city.

Deep, Deep Down!

The Red Sea is pretty big, about as long as driving from New York to Miami and back! It’s also very deep in some spots. Imagine a hole so deep it’s taller than 30 school buses stacked on top of each other! But lots of the sea is shallow, which is perfect for all those corals and sea creatures to live and play.
