Meet the Many Gods!

Polytheism is like having a whole team of gods and goddesses! Instead of just one boss god, people who believe in polytheism believe in many. These gods might be in charge of different things, like the sun, the ocean, or even making plants grow. It's like having a superhero team, but for the whole world!

Gods from Long, Long Ago!

Long before your grandparents were born, many people believed in polytheism. Ancient Egyptians had gods like Ra, the sun god, and Isis, who was a goddess of magic. The ancient Greeks had Zeus, king of the gods, and Poseidon, god of the sea. These beliefs are super old, like older than the oldest castles you can imagine!

Why So Many Gods?

People believed in different gods for different reasons. Some gods might represent powerful things in nature, like a stormy sky or a flowing river. Others might be there to help with specific jobs, like helping farmers grow food or helping sailors cross the sea. It was a way to explain the world around them.

Gods for Everyone!

Even today, some people believe in many gods. In Japan, people follow Shinto, which has many gods called kami. In China, folk religions also have many gods. Sometimes, people don't worship all the gods equally. They might pick a favorite god to pray to for help with their job or their family.
