The Great Ice Bridge Adventure!

A super, super long time ago, when the Earth was much colder, a giant bridge made of ice connected Asia and North America. This was called the Bering Land Bridge. Brave people, who were hunters and gatherers, followed herds of animals across this icy path. They were looking for new places to live and find food. It was a huge adventure, like walking across a frozen playground to a new land!

Who Were These First Explorers?

These first people were called Paleo-Indians. They were very smart and tough! They knew how to make tools from stone and hunt big animals like mammoths, which were like giant fuzzy elephants. They didn't have houses like we do; they lived in small groups and moved around to find food. Think of them as the first explorers, charting a path into a land nobody had ever seen before.

Finding New Homes!

As these explorers walked south, they found amazing new places. Some went into forests, some found grassy plains, and others discovered coasts with lots of fish. They learned to use different plants for food and medicine and became experts at living in all sorts of environments.

This journey took thousands of years, and over time, people spread all the way from the top of North America to the very bottom of South America!

Why We Remember Them

These first people are super important because they were the very first humans to live in North and South America! They were the ancestors of all the Native American and Indigenous peoples who lived here for thousands of years before anyone else arrived. Their journey shows us how determined and clever humans can be when they explore new places.
