Where Did They Come From?

Long, long ago, even before your grandparents' grandparents were born, there was a place called Babylonia. It was like a big, important kingdom that grew up after other kingdoms, like Sumer, became less powerful. Think of it like when the older kids leave the playground, and new leaders take over!

This new kingdom, the Old Babylonian Empire, started around 4,000 years ago. It was a time of big changes and new beginnings in a land with lots of rivers.

Meet the Mighty Kings!

The Old Babylonian Empire was ruled by kings who were super important. One of the most famous was Hammurabi. He was like the ultimate boss of the kingdom! These kings made sure their cities were strong and that people followed their rules. They had special lists that kept track of how long each king ruled, like a scoreboard for kings. These lists help us know who was in charge and when.

Building a Big Kingdom

These kings were busy building and ruling! They made sure their cities, especially the capital city of Babylon, were grand and powerful. They had to manage their lands and make sure everything ran smoothly.

It was a lot of work to keep an empire together, like trying to keep all your toys organized! They were also known for creating laws that everyone had to follow, which was a big deal back then.

Why They're Still Cool Today!

Even though the Old Babylonian Empire is gone, we still learn about it today! The laws they made were some of the first written laws ever, like a super old rulebook. People remember them for how they organized their kingdom and built amazing cities. It shows us how people lived and solved problems thousands of years ago, which is pretty amazing when you think about it!
