Hammurabi

A super long time ago, in a land called Babylonia, there was a powerful king named Hammurabi. He was like the boss of a huge kingdom! Hammurabi wasn't just any king; he was known for making lots and lots of rules.

These rules were written down so everyone could see them. He wanted his kingdom to be fair and safe, and he thought rules were the best way to do that. He was a very important king who changed how people lived!

Hammurabi said he got his amazing rules from a god named Shamash, who was the god of justice. It was like getting a special message from the sky! Before Hammurabi, if someone hurt you, you could hurt them back just as much.

But Hammurabi's rules were different. They said exactly what punishment fit each crime. This was a big change because it meant people couldn't just get angry and hurt others too much.

It helped make things more organized.
