Nuragic Civilization

Imagine a time long, long ago, even before dinosaurs, but not quite that long! On the island of Sardinia, people built amazing stone towers called nuraghes. These weren't just any towers; they were super strong and built to last.

They were like giant, ancient Lego castles made of rock! More than 7,000 of these towers still stand today, scattered all over the island like forgotten giants. They are a big clue to a civilization that lived there many, many years ago.

The Nuragic people lived during the Bronze Age, which is a very, very old time. Think of it as being older than your grandparents' grandparents' grandparents! They started building their special towers around 1800 BC.

That's almost 4,000 years ago! They were around for a super long time, even when other famous ancient people like the Greeks were building their own amazing things. Their civilization lasted for hundreds and hundreds of years.

These incredible stone towers, called nuraghes, were like super forts! They were built very thick and strong, with no doors on the ground floor. This made them hard for anyone to get into.

They might have been homes for important people, or places to keep safe during tricky times. Some were even built next to each other, making big villages. It's like having a whole neighborhood of these cool stone houses!

We don't have many stories written down by the Nuragic people themselves. It's like they left us a giant puzzle with missing pieces! We learn about them from the amazing towers they built and from what other ancient people wrote. It makes them a bit mysterious, like secret agents of the past. What we do know is that they were clever builders who left a lasting mark on Sardinia.
