Where is North Kivu?

North Kivu is a super interesting place in a country called the Democratic Republic of the Congo, all the way in eastern Africa. It's like a big puzzle piece next to a giant lake called Lake Kivu. It's bordered by other provinces and even two other countries, Uganda and Rwanda. Think of it as a busy neighborhood where different places meet!

Giants and Gorillas!

This place is home to amazing nature! There are tall mountains called the Rwenzori Mountains, which are like nature's skyscrapers. And guess what?

It's also where you can find the Virunga National Park, a special home for endangered mountain gorillas. These gentle giants are super important, and this park helps keep them safe. It's a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which means it's a treasure for the whole world!

A Place with a Past

North Kivu has a long story. It used to be part of a bigger area a long, long time ago. Over the years, it changed and became its own special province in 1962, then became a district, and then became a province again in 1988. It has three cities and six smaller areas called territories. It's like a place that has grown and changed a lot, just like you do!

What's Happening There?

North Kivu is a busy place with lots of people living there. The main city is called Goma. People work in different jobs, and they have their own languages and traditions. Sometimes, though, there are challenges, like when people have to move because of problems. But it's also a place with incredible wildlife and beautiful mountains that people want to protect.
