Where Was Noricum?

Noricum was a special place a long, long time ago, mostly in the country we now call Austria, and a little bit of Slovenia. Think of it like a big kingdom that sat right next to the mighty Danube River. To its south was Italy, a place famous for pizza and pasta! It was a land with mountains and rivers, perfect for exploring.

Who Lived There?

The people of Noricum were like a big family of tribes, all living together. They had a king and lived in a capital city called Virunum. This city was built on a hill called Magdalensberg. They were strong and brave people who knew how to live in their beautiful land. They were around for a very long time, starting their kingdom about 2,400 years ago!

Noricum Joins the Romans!

Around 2,000 years ago, the Romans, who were super powerful, decided they liked Noricum. So, Noricum became part of the huge Roman Empire! This meant Roman soldiers, roads, and buildings came to their land. It was like when your school joins a new sports league, but much, much bigger! They became a Roman province, which is like a big state in a giant country.

What Was Noricum Famous For?

Noricum was known for its amazing iron! They dug up lots of iron from the ground and made it into strong tools and weapons. The Romans really wanted this iron. They also had beautiful landscapes with mountains and rivers, which made it a great place to live and travel through. It was a land full of natural treasures.
