Where is Niger?
Niger is a super big country in a part of the world called West Africa. It's so big, it's the largest country in that area that doesn't touch the ocean! Most of Niger is covered by the amazing Sahara Desert, which is like a giant sandy playground. It's bordered by other countries like Libya, Chad, and Nigeria. The capital city, Niamey, is near a big river called the Niger River.
A Land of Sand and Sun!
Get ready for heat! Niger is mostly desert, which means lots of sand and sunshine. It's so hot that only about one-fifth of the land is good for growing food. The rest is sand dunes and dry land. This means people and animals have to be very clever to find water and food. It's like living in a giant sandbox, but a very hot one!
People and Their Homes
About 25 million people live in Niger, which is like having everyone in a few big cities! Most people live in the southern and western parts of the country where there's more water and it's not as hot. They live in homes that are built to stay cool. Many people speak Hausa, which is the main language, but there are other languages too. It's a place with lots of different traditions.
What Do People Do?
Many people in Niger are farmers, growing food like millet and beans to eat. Some farmers grow crops to sell, like peanuts. They also dig up important rocks called uranium, which is used to make electricity. Because Niger is so big and mostly desert, it can be tricky to get things from one place to another. People work hard to build their country and make sure everyone has what they need.
